German Presidency of the G7 in 2022

For one year, Germany holds the G7 Presidency, which is marked by Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine.

Currently, Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine is shaping Germany’s G7 Presidency. At this time of crisis, the members of the G7, who share similar values and represent economically strong democracies, are playing an important part in providing a resolute answer to Russia’s war of aggression. This is characterized by providing political, financial and humanitarian aid to Ukraine and agreeing comprehensive sanctions against Russia and Belarus.

Sustainable Planet

Economic Stability and Transformation

The programme for the German G7 presidency states that “it is our firm conviction that ecological and socially fair transformation and economic prosperity can go hand in hand.” In 2022, amongst other things, Germany aims together with its partners in the G7 to proactively shape the global economy’s recovery from the effects of the Covid pandemic. Items on the agenda also include such things as a process of strengthening multilateralism in world trade and support for sustainable supply chains.

Healthy Lives

Investments in a Better Future

The G7 Summit in June as the Climax

The Heads of State and Government in the G7 will gather at Schloss Elmau in the Bavarian Alps from 26-28 June 2022. However, a large number of other meetings are planned at ministerial level. Furthermore, Germany will be seeking direct dialogue with civil society, which is why meetings are scheduled with business (business7), nongovernmental organizations (civil7), trade unions (labour7), the scientific world (science7), thinktanks (think7), women (women7) and young people (youth7).
